Duck's Dialect(ic)
Produced in collaboration with Victoria de Rijke, and forming part of the
Quack-Project, this simple audio/visual software artwork explores the differences between two duck dialects (one Cockney, one Cornish) whilst articulating how a duck dialetic may evolve from a simple A v B debate into an unresolved argument amongst an entire flock of ducks.
Notes
In terms of DIALECT, each quack is a form of language with its own
- particular geographic area
- specific vocabulary
- grammar
- pronunciation
Also according to Saussure’s linguistics, what matters in language are not sound units (phonemes) in themselves but the relationships between sounds.
In terms of DIALECTIC, the quacks should argue, content, debate, and act out differences between two views, within a system of argument which brings out the contradictions in each opponents reasoning.
System Requirements
