Custom hardware solutions for arts and commerce

A lot can be done with software, but sometimes the only way to get what you want is to use custom hardware. Those situations can be daunting due to the increased complexity involved and compatability between disparate technologies. With our expanding knowledge and experience in this area of work, Signwave can help realise and maintain custom hardware systems to achieve your needs.

Take a look at some of the specific achievements we've made in custom hardware development recently to get an idea of what we're capable of. When you're ready to talk to us, just tell us what you need.

The CASM Distributed Audio System

CASM System
Signwave is a key alliance member of the CASM Group, responsible for designing, manufacturing, installing and maintaining a cutting edge distributed and non-linear audio spatialisation system. Installed into both temporary as well as permanent buildings and public spaces, the CASM system allow sounds to be distributed and moved around a 3D space without being restricted to specific pre-set channels or paging zones (a major limit of existing public audio systems).

Custom Show Control and DMX Lighting Controller Software

DMX Lighting Rig
Both The National Waterfront Museum, Swansea (NWMS) and the UK Pavillion at the World Expo, Japan 2005 are making use of Signwave's expertise in programming and developing custom lighting rig control systems. Using industry standard DMX-512 controller hardware, Signwave is developing systems that make show control, lighting management and synchronisation to multimedia not only possible, but easy! Amongst our specific achievements in this area include developing complex controller software that can precisely position a Martin MAC 250+ moving head's light beam onto arbitrary coordinates on a digital projection. We've also facilitated solutions for other developers, making it a breeze to control such DMX hardware from industry standard multimedia development environments such as Macromedia Director MX 2004.

Hardware/Multimedia bridging systems

Custom electronics
Installation artists are often some of the most demanding consumers of custom hardware technology. Whilst commerce and industry can rely standards to make deployment easier, artists have a habit of demanding custom solutions that precisely match their needs. Signwave has extensive experience in bringing custom developed hardware solutions to artists who would otherwise be left out in the cold. Our work with theatre designer Marie Blunck made her interactive installation performance happen with a minimum of fuss and expenditure. Our continued collaboration with The UK Museum of Ordure explores increasingly more diverse ways of using hardware to realise creative new spaces for their installation projects.
